Sealants help to protect teeth from dental decay by creating a barrier which prevents food particles and bacteria present from causing cavities.
Sealants are placed over the deep grooves and pits of the teeth to help prevent cavities from forming. Food and bacteria can get trapped in these deep grooves, which can be difficult or even impossible to brush and clean all the food particles out. Sealants eliminate the deep grooves and pits, making it less likely for cavities to form. Sealants are non-invasive and many times, insurance may cover all or most of the procedure costs.
